Once students are familiar with the routine of reading to someone, you may want to try one of the buddy reading plan sheets. This sheet requires the students to plan out the discussion that they are going to have with their reading partner. It would require them to have 4 meetings with the same partner but could be modified to fewer meetings if desired. The thick versus thin questions also gets students thinking about the types of questions that they are asking each other.

Note: Many of the Read to Self activities can also be used for Read to Someone.

Planning sheet for students.

This sheet helps students organize the questions that they want to ask their partner.

The posters help students remember the difference between right there or "thin" questions and higher level or "thick" questions.

This sheet gives some question starters for higher level questions.
